Energon Crystals

The natural form of Energon is a crystalline structure that grows naturally on some worlds, and can be seeded where it does not (provided you're given a few million years for the crystals to grow). The Crystals are full of a powerful energy, and have thus been used as power source by Cybertronians for a very long time. Other races such as the Avok have also been known to use Energon Crystals for power sources, and an Energon ripe world was at the heart of the disagreement that lead to The Avok War.

In its crystalline form, Energon can either be stable or unstable. Stable crystals are safe for use, and are the desired target of Energon harvesting. However, unstable crystals are highly explosive, and give off a form of radiation known as Energon Radiation that is harmful to Cybertronians. If exposed to it for too long, Cybertronians will experience severe power surges, power loss, stasis lock, and then finally total spark loss. Proper shielding can be acquired to protect against the radiation, though often the cheaper alternative of SynthFlesh is used.
