"I talked with him while he was on the tree," you answer the policeman. "He was trying to take photos of me. I opened my window and told him to stop. And then he told me about the camgirl thing, and he gave me his card."
The policeman looks skeptical. "And that's when he fell?"
"Yes," you reply.
"How'd he fall?" Deputy Stuart asks you. "I mean, did he move his leg the wrong way or something?"
"Yes. I told him to leave and stop bothering me. He tried to climb down the tree. He missed a step and fell." You spout lies from your mouth like it is nothing. You hope that your story is feasible enough for the deputy.
The police officer looks at you, his eyebrows furrowed. "I don't believe it," he tells you.
"Don't believe what?" you ask him.
"What you just said." He tells you to wait in the room as he leaves. A minute later, he returns with the cameraman's camera in his hands.
At first, you think, What's he going to do with that? Then, you remember, Oh shit. The photos of me in my apartment! Your face scrunches up.
Deputy Stuart sits back down in his chair. "Judgin' by your face, I think you know what's on this camera. I do too. You wanna change what you jus' said before we see the film?"
You hesitantly reply, "Are you supposed to be looking through his photos? That's his property."
"I don't needa' warrant to look at some photos," Deputy Stuart declares.
