You check to make sure the windows and doors are locked. You aren't going to get wrapped up in a riot or gang war.
Pressing your ear to the wall, you can hear only muffled laughing. You grab a glass out of the cabinet in the kitchen, press it against the wall, and listen. The volume is a little better, but not by much. It sounds like something smashing against wood. Muffled. A chopping board? Then she laughs. What could be so funny about a chopping board?
You put the glass away, drop onto the couch, and try and sort out what the hell could be going on. You check your phone. No signal. You sit with your empty flashlight and wonder what the hell is going on.
