The trial is a mercifully short affair, and is over in just a few days. Mom's found guilty, of course, and even after you plead with the judge, making him award the minimum penalty, Mom still gets 12 years in prison. Dad's found to be criminally insane, but you know he's faking it, and he confirms it by mouthing "you're next" to you when he's sentenced to psychiatric treatment. Apparently, he's sure he will be out in a year or two. Your spine chills at the thought.
