"Claire, I've never done anything in my life, like, at all, that warrants me surviving this." You say quietly.
"What do you mean?" She asks, equally quiet.
"I've slacked my way through everything. I'm not particularly good at anything, and I'm not a particularly good person. I'm not the type to try and be a hero, but the least I can do is not put you at risk on the off chance that this shit is in me."
"Are you having a moment of self pity?" She asks. "Or are you just trying to impress with me honesty?"
"Both, probably," you say, and you hear her chuckle outside the door. "I know we don't know each other really well or anything, but I just don't want to chance it."
"Okay," she says. "So we'll just sit here for a little while and talk. Then when nothing happens, you'll come out?"
"Sure," you say, hoping that she's right and that nothing will change.
"Well, then let's talk." She says.
