Sneak out the window and come around to the front door

This'll give whoever's down there a real surprise! Silently, you slip out the window and stroll around your cottage. As you do so, you hear a loud sound nearby, like something very big shuffling its feet or slithering away. It seems that your emergence from the window startled it, and it's now run off. You strain your ears but hear nothing more. Then, creeping around the bushes, you take a peek into your home's window, almost tripping over a small rock.
You see your friend Nathaniel cooking up a hot breakfast.
