You turn about, ready to retrace your steps across the waving field. You can still see the path you cut through the grass: if you return that way, and look down as you go, maybe you'll find what you've dropped. You take the first couple of steps... and that's when you notice the way the grass is moving.
It isn't the wind making the tips of the stems bend; they're moving of their own accord, wrapping like grasping tentacles around your bag, belt and boots and trying to pull them clear away.
You've heard of this stuff: it is Pilfer Grass. It is not intelligent, but takes things simply through instinct, and then carries them away, passing them from blade to blade.
