You cast the spell, expecting to take possession of the villager's will. But though you complete the spell, nothing seems to change! The you remember – this spell only works on non-intelligent creatures, and despite appearances, this man is intelligent enough.
The villager watches you with bemusement. When you are finished, and gasping for breath, he steps forward, threateningly. "I said, what business?"

- Ask for directions onwards
- Tell him you are hungry and need provisions
- Push him out of your way
