An Indian is a person who lives or has origins from India.

In North America, the native people are often called Indians. This is incorrect as Native Americans have no proven link to India.
This name calling dates back to the 1400s when Christopher Columbus was looking for a quicker way from Europe to India. When Columbus accidentally arrived in North America, he originally thought it was India. They were soon greeted by the native people. Believing it was India, Columbus began calling the people Indians.
