Talk:Christian Apologetics and Research Ministry

From Wikireligion

You protected the page becuase you didn't like my edit? Nice. Quite the "wiki" you have here. So, explain to me how just because CARM criticized certain groups that means that those groups are "against" CARM? Do you have proof? Citations? Or is this "encyclopedia" just a website for your personal opinions?

This page should be unprotected so other editors can improve it. I agree with the above comment that these claims need citations if this is supposed to be an actual encyclopopdia.

  • I know it is true. People are taking it out repeatedly so I am protecting it again. --Sir James Paul 16:03, 4 January 2007 (EST)
if you know it is true, then provide a citation. an encyclopedia isn't supposed to be "what sir james knows is true" but what is factual. protecting a page becuase you don't like other editor's opinions is tantamount to totalitarianism
Please provide a source or a ref. Otherwise it is infactual. I'm sorry, the IP's have made a good point here, and we need to know if it actully factual. ForestH2 10:16, 6 January 2007 (EST)
  • It is factual but I will unprotect the page and let them take it out. --Sir James Paul 12:52, 6 January 2007 (EST)

"Unchristian"

I'm not sure what CARM considers "unchristian" and I think that section needs to be cited as well, but I've gone ahead and removed some faiths (Islam, Wicca, etc) that make no pretense in the first place about being Christian, so there's nothing really notable about them being labeled "unchristian." (That's like saying CARM considers green "un-blue" - duh). Qwerty 18:00, 6 January 2007 (EST)

is this a cult?

  • I did. Look at the CARM website. --Sir James Paul 14:57, 14 January 2007 (EST)

Cults

are there references for CARM calling all these groups "cults"? If not, it must be removed. It sounds prejudicial without citations. --Seven of nine 20:41, 4 February 2007 (EST)

Look at the website. --Sir James Paul 04:58, 5 February 2007 (EST)
No, don't put the burden on me to go through their website to verify this information. You added to an encyclopedia article, so you should provide citations that it is true. Provide the link(s) that state CARM considers all of those groups "cults". Otherwise, I will remove it as inflammatory. --Seven of nine 06:50, 5 February 2007 (EST)
Look at the sidebar at the CARM site and you will find what you need. We do not need nagative people like you here. --Sir James Paul 07:53, 5 February 2007 (EST)
Dude, do you understand the concept of a citation? And pushing for accuracy within what you want to be an encyclopedia "better than wikipedia" is not negativity - its responsibility. --Seven of nine 07:59, 5 February 2007 (EST)
Case in point. That "sidebar" lists a bunch of groups under the heading "religious movements" - not all of them are considered "cults". Look at your club's list of cults here: http://www.carm.org/cults/cultlist.htm You'll see that many you've added to the article do not appear on this list. That's why citations are necessary. --Seven of nine 08:03, 5 February 2007 (EST)
