James' Express Rescue

The Fat Controller is to assess Henry's speed capabilities, but during this a landslide causes him to stop suddenly and damage the coaches' couplings. This then causes problems, when one snaps on Gordon's Hill and causes them to run away! James' quick thinking however saves the day and he is branded a hero.

Cleanliness

Gordon teases James about always coming back to the shed dirtier than when he left. The others are angry but Gordon ignores them. The next day however, Gordon feels ill and the black smoke he produces covers his paintwork with soot whilst he's going through a tunnel. He is forbidden to continue the train in his state, and gets teased for his comeuppance.

Jealousy is a Terrible Thing

Gordon, after his soot incident, is restricted to goods trains for a building site. On the way to it, he sees Henry and makes an effort to speed up and pass him. He does- but finds that it is harder to stop with heavier trucks, and he diverted and crashes off a siding and into a tree in a field. He is sent to the Works and scolded for his jealous attempt.

Steam Power

Due to Gordon's absense, a Diesel is brought to the railway to take over his work. He, as expected, criticises the engines for their out-datedness and makes them cross. Henry then shows him up after an oil leak causes the Diesel to break down, and Henry hauls him to the building site. The Diesel is sent to the Works in disgrace, and the engines are actually looking forward to Gordon's return.
