Notes
- In September 2008, it was announced that the entire ERS Library will be completely overhauled- including the axing of volumes that aren't accurate enough, and addng in volumes to fill in 'gaps' and explain changes on the Island of Sodor. It also includes the removal of several unneeded one-dimensional characters from the ERS. The above list is the progress so far of the ERS Library version 2.
- Volumes without stories have not yet been completed or submitted, so the stories have not been confirmed.
- Volumes 100 and 101 were the result of a 'War Of Words', with teams comprising four members writing a volume to compete for the honoured slot of 100. Another volume from this contest was The Fat Controller's Dilemma, which eventually took the spot of Volume 99.
- Fan-made characters introduced in the ERS Books that are on the Island include Evan, Edwin Richard, Sodor Castle, Eagle, Brad, Lucky, Hunter, Roger, Rocky, Scott, Kaiser, Warrior, Norman, Betty, Blandford, Jebediah, Dennis, Pride of Knapford, Roland, and Daphne.
- Fan-made characters introduced in the ERS Books from Other Railways include Quinten, Henry 2, Two-Cab, Uproar, Hammilton, Horace, Dean, Audrey, Growler, King Charles II, and Flying Fox.
- Fan-made villains introduced in the ERS Books include Vermat, Vector, Petunia, Hyacinth, Arcelia, and Janus.
- Real engines introduced in the ERS Books include Blackmoor Vale, Fenchurch, Sharpthorn, and Tornado.
- Characters like Jinty, Pug, D199, Philippa and Emma have returned to the Island in the ERS, of which Jinty, Philippa and Emma stay permanently.
- Characters previously unnamed in the RWS but named in the ERS include Wendell (The Works Diesel), Shane (Willie's Tractor) and Rod (The Orange Caterpillar Crane).
- Characters such as Shane Dooiney, Blister I & II, 87546 & 98462, Jim, Tim, Albert, Jerry, the Mine Engine, and Rickety have been properly introduced into the 'Sodor' Universe. Algy has also been introduced into the RWS-based stories.
