Everybody Hates Me!
From Rationalwikiwki
Everybody Hates Me! is a phrase loved by angst-ridden adolescents who scream it before going to their rooms (or retiring from Wikis) in the expectation that they will receive a stream of visitors telling they are not hated and please to come out of their room (or rejoin a wiki).
They, of course, flatter themselves when they assume that people actually care enough about them to “hate” them. “Hate” is a very strong emotion, and the best they can realistically hope to generate is profound indifference or, at most, occasional irritation. Unfortunately, “Everybody Is Occasionally Irritated By Me!!” while true, does not really give the spoilt ones the emotional satisfaction, interest or feeling of victimization they crave.
Meanwhile, as the vast majority of people either don’t care or are glad they are gone, the anticipated long queue of people asking for their return doesn’t form at the door.
They must then slink back downstairs and try to pretend they had never left. While this may work with doting parents it is noticeably less successful at wikis where people are likely to remind them of their previous words and deeds. While profoundly humiliating, it does reinforce their feelings of persecution – so it’s not a complete emotional waste for them.
