Generaloberst Beck

August Theodor Ludwig Beck (born on June, 29 1880 in Biebrich, Germany) is a German general. He is known as a competent military officer in the highest ranks of the German Army.

Biography

Beck was born in Biebrich, in Hesse, to industrialist Ludwig Beck and his wife Bertha Draudt. After his graduation from the Diltheyschule in Wiesbaden in 1898, he joined the Prussian Army as a Fahnenjunker. In 1916, he married Amelie Pagenstecher who would die a year and a half later, after the birth of their daughter. During the Weltkrieg, he served as a General Staff officer on the Western Front. He distinguished himself in the ranks of the General Staff and quickly reached the rank of general due to his commandments during the 1926 German intervention in China, and is known as a strict opponent to Pan-Germanism within the army.
