I knew you were kind at heart. Either that or you just want him in case you need a decoy. You begin to make your way towards the alley while violently beheading zombies with your trusty key( your getting pretty good with it). You make it to him just before he starts making major progress on his barricade. You try to talk to him quickly so zombies don't gather around. You offer him guarunteed safety ( You Liar ). He hops out over his halfway finished barricade and joins you. By the way, he has a rifle and knows how to use it pretty well ( apparently he was in Vietnam ).
