As you stand there, staring at Vanessa's dead body, her final words give you the strength to carry on. It's not my fault, you think. I won't become a monster. I'll treat this as a nightmare I lived through.

You lay down all your weapons. The loudspeaker activates.

"The winner of the first Battle Royale is Girl #4, Brooke Harris!" booms the announcer's voice. Your collar deactivates suddenly. "All danger zones have been removed from the game area. Brooke, step outside for the ceremony."

You make your way back to the front door of the building. Several TV crews are awaiting your arrival. The announcer rips your now deactivated collar off and throws it aside before starting in on the interview.

"Brooke, how did you manage to survive?"

"A little luck, I suppose, and some timely use of weapons."

"When you had the final fight, were you thinking about being the champion?"

"No, I was thinking about not getting killed."

"You killed your own brother to win the contest. How did you manage to do that?"

You tear up a little bit. "I had no choice. I would have preferred not to have to do it, but he was going to kill me. My survival insticts kicked in."

"What are your plans now?"

"To forget this nightmare ever happened."

"And there you have it, folks! Tune in next year for the second Battle Royale -- to be hosted at a different high school, of course."

The TV crews and the announcer leave. A man you've never met before steps over to you. "I'm the guy behind the scenes," he says. "You don't need to know my name. Here's a check for $200,000. Now let's get you back home."

You deposit the money the next day and do your best to forget everything that ever happened. The loss of your brother and the Brat Pack stay with you for a long time, but you manage to eventually move on from being a part of Battle Royale.
