You suggest a Grand Theft Auto type of game. The others are skeptical, but you end up convincing everyone its the right way to go. You don't want to copy the game exactly, just have a similar format with the shooting and violence, etc. It takes almost a year to produce, but the final project is one that the whole company is proud of. The game gets an Adults Only rating at first, but with a little money under the table you manage to lower it to a M for mature. The reviews are generally positive. Parents are incredibly mad about the game and think it is promoting all the wrong things. The company stands behind the game and states that it is just that, a game, nothing more nothing less. Sales are up and the game turns a pretty reasonable profit.
Two months later, a school shooting happens in California. 15 teenagers are killed by a fellow student at high school. The media attacks the video game and blames it for the shooting. Soon parents across the country are calling for it to be taken off the shelves. The media is just fueling the fire. You and your colleagues sit back and watch this unfold on TV and can not believe the things you are hearing. Everyone is ignoring that the kid who did this was messed up in the head and abused by his parents. Everyone takes immediately to blaming your video game. You really need to end this and fast.
