"...I see." Your waifu looks sad, but also resolved, like she knew this was coming.
"I'm really sorry." You look at your knees. "We can still hang out, of course..."
"Yeah." She pats the back of your hand. "Listen, it's been really fun."
"I know... I know. Same to you."
It hurts being away from her. But you heal, and you move on. You see other girls. You try living in new places. And you keep in touch with your waifu. You're no longer living with her, but she's still as easy to talk to as ever. You start to realize that the two of you work much better as friends than as lovers.
Some years pass. You have a wife (that's 'wife,' not 'waifu') and children now. You sit in your lovely backyard, relaxing after a summer barbecue with the family, when you get a text. It's from your waifu--she hopes you're doing well. She's having a great time in Switzerland. She's sent you some vacation photos. They look awesome.
Your kid walks up to you and asks who you're texting with.
"My very best friend," you reply.
