The Memory Makers/Tell Kuzo the truth11100

"Kuzo," you begin cautiously, "I just realized that I can't remember anything."

"My past is a complete blank."

Kuzo stares at you for a moment as if to see if you're joking. When he realizes you aren't, he says. "I knew you're condition was bad, but that bad?"

You nod. "It must be. I can't remember anything. All I know is my name. I don't know where I'm from or where I was headed."

"Wherever you were going," Kuzo says, "I can't have been District 8."

"Why not?" You ask.

"Because it's one of the poorest districts in the country. There's no promise here."

"It's more likely," says Kuzo, "That you were heading for Yudoma."

The name rings a bell and you smile. "The capital! Of course!"

Kuzo looks at you sharply. "I thought you didn't remember anything."

You think about that for a moment. "It's not so much that I can't remember anything. I just can't remember anything about myself or my past."

"Oh... sorry." Kuzo looks at you sympathetically.

"Kuzo," you ask, "How can I get to Yudoma? I don't think walking is a good idea."

"Well," says Kuzo. "There aren't many cars around here, but you might be able to rent one of them. How much money do you have?"

You search your pockets and wince. "Nothing. I'm broke."

Kuzo raises an eyebrow. "Well, that makes two of us."

"Although," he says with a smile, "I do have enough for a few drinks. Let's go."
