The Echidna Tale/Vanilla imp

From Create Your Own Story

You always had an affinity to magic, especially to corrupting magic. But this time, you had to design a spell for someone else to use: someone who'd never have the skill and the resources you had. Even with the limitations, however, you managed to create and perfect the spell in a mere few short days; clearly, your long slumber did nothing to your mind.

Still, there were some limitations. It'd fundamentally only work on children: they were simpler to mold, and a more complex kind of magic was required to make the spell to affect adult humans. In addition, several relatively rare and expensive types of material components were required, unless there were some other mitigating factors one could make an use of. The spell worked better on one's blood relatives, for example, allowing for them to be substituted with weaker, cheaper materials. However, you were still quite confident that even a beginner magician could pull it off. Inscribing the spell to a scroll, you decide to start looking for some poor fool to give it to.

One amateur alchemist and magician catches your attention quite fast. A middle-aged man, secretly working for the baron under the eyes of the church, trying to develop potions and miracle drugs for the baron to use and sell. He was far from talented, but he was extremely hard working: despite having a wife and two daughters, he spent nearly every hour of his day holed up inside his laboratory. His favour with the baron rose and fell: the rare times he had a small breakthrough the baron showered him with appreciation, but often he was at risk of having his laboratory taken away from him. He'd do anything for some more power.
