More distance between you and the vampire seems like a good idea.

That morning you call your boss. "I'm quitting the case, and I'm coming home."

"Why?" he asks incredulously.

You search for a reason that wouldn't sound crazy. "I think my life's in danger."

There's silence on the other end. Then, "Okay. We'll get you on the first flight out. We'll talk more about this when you're back. Did you find out anything about Michael?"

You think for a moment. He'd never believe that Michael was killed by a vampire. "Not really."

Back home, you manage to BS well enough to keep your job. With such unusual experiences under your belt, though, you don't feel you fit in the corporate world any more. You grow more and more dissatisfied with your job until one day, you quit. A month later, you're on a boat at sea, the newest addition to a team of professional treasure hunters. The adventure suits your new tastes very well.
