"Now hold on just a minute," you say, annoyed at the woman for refusing you.
"Today is a local holiday. Don't you remember that? A few places today are allowing a little leeway on that rule because a lot of people are walking around in their swimsuit, enjoying the water, and the sun! You shouldn't have any reason not to do this too. It's bad for business and disrespects the spirit of the holiday!"
The woman opens her mouth to respond when a coughing and choking fills the air, coming from behind you. Her head leans to the side, looking past you and you whirl around to see what is so interesting behind you.
The fat man, who had not ceased stuffing his face with donut after donut, is unsurprisingly choking.
It seems as though not only you are the last person to notice, but you're also the only one who may actually be able, and willing, to do something about it.
The man with the newspaper casually ignores the fat man, while the couple stare at him with a mixture of confusion and uncertainty on their faces. Even the workers, who should have first aid training, stare in stunned silence.
