Paul, useless office clerk

From Create Your Own Story

Until yesterday you were nothing relevant. No one cared for you, you had a lousy job in some small law firm of Monroeville, your co-workers hardly noticed you except to reproach you your ineptitude. You had no real friends, no future, no money, no sexlife - last time a girl touched your cock was last summer when you got that strange pimple at the base of your scrotum and the nurse was at least twice your age; before that you can hardly remember - you had nothing. You passed through Saturday night only because none of your neighbors did actually remember there was someone living on the seventh floor of your building.

When the sun came up you knew this had changed. You were nothing but now you had something over lots and lots of people: You were alive.

You went to the car shop and stole the biggest truck you could find. You went to the armory around the corner and piled up a bunch of ammo and weapons. You went to the grocery across the road and stacked loads of canned food in the trunk. You took camping material, survivor gear, water, medical supplies, gallons and gallons of gas, anything you could think of just to be ready. Nobody noticed you, the few survivors you came across were too busy minding their own business.

Over the radio you heard that New York and Washington had been nuked by an unknown foe. The president had survived as he was in Florida on a trip for the night but his whole family had died in the explosions. Before long the Russians, the Chinese and the Europeans had decided to send help. Two southern states had declared independence led by some religious nutjob. The strange sickness, originated in Monroeville had spread to L.A., Vegas and a few other cities. People had been advised to stay home and barricade themselves. A quarantine zone had been set in place by the army and the CDC and the Canadian border had been closed.

Behind the wheel of your truck, you smile, in all this chaos you actually might do something of your life. Do something interesting, being someone... at last.

The sun is still high in the sky and you have to make a choice:

North or south?
