"Ummm..."
You're not sure what to say to make small talk. Nothing comes to mind immediately! Suddenly, you blurt out a corny phrase you used to say around good-looking girls back home when you looked repulsive: "I may be not, but you are HOT!"
You can't believe that just come out of your mouth.
The guy turns to face you and, with horror, you realize that you know this boy from your previous life! He's your cousin's boyfriend, Charlie!
You met him last summer and you had your picture taken with him. He'd been grossed out by your face, of course, but your cousin had forced him to smile for the camera. Your cousin was a hottie and you envied this guy for having her... but here you are, now a hottie yourself, and you could have him! You're sure you're hotter now than your cousin.
Charlie stares at you a moment, then breaks into a nervous laugh, and finally says, "What did you say?"
You just stand there.
"I'm sorry," he continues. "It's just that I know only one person who would ever use that line... For a second there, I thought you might be him, but I see that ... you're ... definitely not. It's just ... weird. Really weird."
He sighs and looks at you incredulously. "How could you even say such a thing? You're so... so..."
You finally speak. "Hot?"
He looks at you like you're a weirdo.
You try to recover: "It was a joke. I just wanted to compliment you and... Something stupid just came out of my mouth. It happens sometimes when I see... you... I mean, when I see someone as handsome as you."
He seems flattered, if a little puzzled.
You take a deep breath and remind yourself that you are super good-looking. Trying to sound confident, you continue: "Look, I just wanted to tell you that you're very attractive. I'm new on campus and don't have many friends. Would you like to hang out sometime?"
He looks you over. It's a weird feeling, as no one, male or female, has ever actually wanted to look at you before. He looks impressed.
"What did you have in mind?" he asks.
You:
- Tell him that dinner and a movie would be nice
- Tell him you'd like to go for a walk that evening
- Tell him you'd like to hook up
