The stake is nice, but it'd take a lot of force to get it through someone's chest. Maybe you'd better get something more practical. You tuck it in your belt and keep looking. Nothing else in this room stands out to you.
The next two rooms you check have nothing in them. The third seems to be a kitchen. An assortment of knives catches your attention. You hurry over and pick up a nice big one. It's rusty and absolutely useless unless you want to give someone tetanus. You pick up a few more. No luck. They were made before the invention of stainless steel. You're about to turn away when a glint catches your eye. One knife isn't rusted. You pick it up. The blade is badly tarnished, and of a different texture than the other ones. In the few spots not consumed with tarnish, you catch your own reflection. Silver, you realize. This blade is coated with silver! You carefully tuck your new knife into your belt.
Now if it comes to close quarters combat, you're well armed.
