You opt for the Lightning Bolt. You're just about to finish the incantation, when a wasp flies near your ear. In an attempt to drive the wasp away, you cast Electric Mutation instead of Lightning Bolt..
The change is immediate. The bandits begin to morph, their bodies becoming hideously deformed at first, and their agonic screams fill your ears. But then they begin to grow larger, and larger, their bodies suddenly muscled and powerful, tearing the clothes they were wearing, making them into big, three metres (9 feet - that is, a metre taller than you) tall. Their faces mutate as well, becoming brutish and deformed, and their reproducing organs morph too, vastly increasing in size.
You jump in the carriage, shouting at the coachman to ride faster, before the transformation is complete.
"What have you done?" howls Hestra. "They'll get us and kill us!"
Fortunately, you manage to cast another spell, Devil's Heels, on the horses of your carriage, making them go fast as a wildfire. By the time the mutated bandits finish their alteration, you'll be away.
You arrive at a small village by evening. The forest of Mahak is just behind this village, but it's already night, and so you decide to wait till morning.
