Annabelle said she was buying. You allow her to pay the check.

She then looks at you coldly. "It's not nice to suggest an expensive restaurant when someone else is paying."

"But I...but you said...If you want, I can pay..." you stammer.

She shakes her head. "It's too late for that. Anyway, I do have a traditional side to me, and I kind of like the guy to pay. I can let it go when it's a cheap place, but not at a place like this. Also, free advice. There are times when a woman says something is okay, but it's really not okay. A real man has to know the difference between the two."

"Traditional? But you're a career woman, you make a lot more money than me, you were so proud of being better at "guy stuff" than me...don't you think there's kind of a double standard here?"

"Double standard? That may be. But since guys want sex a lot more than girls do, they'll just have to deal with it." You sigh, knowing she's right. There is a double standard, but that's the price males pay for having higher sex drives. It's not fair, but life isn't fair.

"I'm not going to fire you or make you resign, but it is going to be kind of awkward at work now. You may want to start looking for another position," Annabelle suggests.

You nod. Your chance of scoring with her is gone, and it is going to be awkward. Oh well. Maybe there will be new girls and better wages at your next job.
