Jump. "Oh, yeah. Right. Bye, Mr. Son. Bye, Woohyun."

From Create Your Own Story

You had the urge to pout, to resist, to refuse – Woohyun was, you decided, alright and you wanted to get to know him better – but spun on your heel anyway. “Bye, Woohyun-ah!”

Once you had disappeared around the corner, Woohyun let himself into Dongwoon’s classroom. “Ah, you’re really lucky, you know, to be teaching such intelligent and likeable young adults.”

“What do you want, Nam?” Dongwoon asked coldly, despite the man in front of him being one of his closest friends.

Woohyun looked offended. “I just came to ask you if you had chosen a date for Yoseob and Suzy’s wedding yet.”

Dongwoon stared at him blankly. “That’s it? That’s why you came all the way over here?”

“Well, you do need a date,” Woohyun pointed out matter-of-factly. “You can’t just go by yourself. Yoseob was very clear: every adult guest must bring a date.”

“Who are you going with, then?” Dongwoon crossed his arms.

“Well,” Woohyun grinned and pulled out his phone, “I was thinking of asking Iris.”

Dongwoon’s eyes narrowed. “No. Absolutely not – I forbid you.”

“And why not?”

“The girl is seventeen. And you are twenty-three”

“She’s not my date then. She’ll be my…” Woohyun’s voice faded as he tried to think of the appropriate label.

“Yes?” Dongwoon waited expectantly.

“Escort?” Woohyun winced.

“You really are unbelievable.”

“If you have a problem with it, then just ask her before I do. We’re the same age, after all.” Woohyun shrugged carelessly as he walked towards the door.

“You…that is not…that is very inappropriate…I would never, ever,” Dongwoon sputtered, positively livid. “This is ridiculous. She is my student, I am her teacher, and you are my friend. No one is going to the wedding with Lee Iris.”

“We’ll see if she says yes, or not,” Woohyun said with a wink. “A fight for her as a date, eh?”

“There will be no fight,” snapped Dongwoon. “I would never, ever consider Iris for…”

“Fine. Take Hyuna-sensei then. She looks like an easy lay.” Woohyun shrugged again and walked out the door.

Dongwoon’s mouth opened and closed in disbelief, without making any noise, as Woohyun left and quickly seated himself at his desk to grade the tests. When he got to Iris’s test, he groaned inwardly, thinking of his conversation with Woohyun, and graded it carefully, as if it were a bomb about to go off.

You had done surprisingly poorly and, as much as he didn’t want to, his policy stated that any student with scores as low as yours were subject to a mandatory after school student-teacher conference. Of course, there should’ve been no hesitation in the decision to talk with you tomorrow; he was your teacher and nothing more.
