You clap along with the other girls as Ms. Devato walks offstage. You can't help but smile, your childhood dream is becoming a reality. Although, it's not really your 'childhood dream' as you're eight and still want to become a princess, along with your best friend Amelia.
You look over to her and see her clapping with the same amount of enthusiasm. You've lived next door to her since you were born and stayed over at her house so many times it feels like she's the sister you've never had.
The clapping dies out, and the conversation resumes as you turn to talk to Amelia.
"I feel like I'm dreaming. This is better than anything I could ever have imagined." You point to one of the many servers taking orders around the room, their uniform gilded with gold.
"Mmm, yeah," Amelia replies, unusually despondent, her head rested on her chin.
