Call June

From Create Your Own Story

You pick up your cell phone and dial June’s number. She should be on her lunch break right now. She was a witch and she worked in an antique book store. You only have to wait a few moments. She picks up and sounds normal. At least she’s not mad at you for some reason.

“Hey, Dallas. How are you?”

“I’m fine,” you say. “How are you?”

June sighs. “I’m fine. I called you earlier just to make sure you were still alive. What were you hunting last night? A vampire?”

“A demon. From 1 to 10 he was only a 4,” you say lightly. June doesn’t take it lightly.

“I worry about you. That you won’t come home one night. I try to leave you… so I won’t worry so damn much…. but I love you so damn much I can’t even leave you.” June sighs. You can imagine her leaning over and smoothing her hair back from her face, a nervous gesture she does.

“I’m half angel. I can handle myself.”

“You’re half human. That half of you doesn’t heal fast. That half of you can die,” she says.

“I’m sorry I worry you,” you say.

“It’s fine. You’re right. You can take care of yourself. I need to chill out, I know. I’ll call you later.”

“Sure,” you say, and quickly add, “uh, June?”

“Yes, Dallas?”

“I miss you too.” You say. “How much more time do you need?”

“Not much,” June said. “I’ve almost wrapped my mind around the fact that my boyfriend’s a demon hunter. Now I just need to get over the constant worry I have for you.”

“Ok,” you say.

“Talk to you later,” June said.

“Bye.”
