You make a quick calculation 296 survivors, 36 of whom are wounded. Thats all of the people from the trucks that were taken out. There 260 men unharmed in the remaining 26 trucks, the trucks are made for 10 men each at most and injured soldiers take more space than normal. There's no way they could transport all of the wounded. Also, the presence of an enemy unit this far behind the frontlines cannot be ignored. those 5 tanks can cause tremendous damage if left unchecked. Well.. on top of the damage they allready dealt.

The colonel Smirks at you "I can almost see those gears o' yours turning, wondering what ta make for breakfast?" He looks like he's enjoying himself too much so you pull him down to earth. "No, I'm thinking about how we'll take out 5 Heavy tanks with precision cannons and a few dozen infantrymen support when all we have is light infantry arms and 3 armored cars with machineguns. They'll massacre us in a head-on fight, I'm also wondering why they retreated rather than finishing us off."

The men around you snicker and one remarks "We got ourselves a smart-ass 'ere boys!". The colonel doesn't join the laughter though. "So then, smart-ass How would you go about it?" An amused grin lingering on his face.
