Break down the door

From Create Your Own Story

Dez reached out, running his hand over the smooth surface of the door. It was just cedar. He squared his shoulders, running his tongue along the edge of his teeth as he tried to judge the thickness of the door, the solidness of the doorjamb, the strength of the latch. He could probably bust it down, but not without making some noise and leaving some evidence. It might be worth the risk, though.

He cast a nervous glance toward the dining hall and then looked back at the door, something about the glossy red wood giving him pause. Something was missing.

"Ha!" he exclaimed, almost jumping in excitement as he realized that Zeth had forgotten to claim his room. Each door was enchanted to allow only one mage to imprint upon it. Dez slipped inside and shut the door behind him. Zeth was standing in front of the window, looking out over the grounds, but turned as the latch clicked into place. His face paled at the sight of Dez.

"How did you get in here?" he demanded.

"You didn't imprint the door," Dez said. "I did. You're in my room now."

"Then I'll leave," Zeth said, striding forward. "Get out of my way."

Dez should...
