"Like what?" Tom asks.
"Are you married?"
"No."
"Ever been?"
"No."
"Always been gay?"
Tom hesitates. "I suppose so. I never really thought about it. When I was growing up, it wasn't exactly safe to think about it. There was one gay boy in my high school and he was tormented and humiliated, kicked and tripped and spit on, called horrible names, on a daily basis. I knew I didn't want that, so I didn't let myself feel the way I wanted to feel. Why? What do you care?"
You shrug. "Just curious. So is this--" You gesture to yourself and the dingy motel room. "Is this the only type of sex you've had with another guy?"
"Do you mean, have I ever had a boyfriend? No. Now, can we get on with this?"
