Ask Mitchell to walk home with you after school

From Create Your Own Story

You murmur shyly, "Mitchell... would you like to walk me home today?"

Mitchell blushes, but manages to reply, "I'd like that a lot, Edna."

He leans forward and kisses you on the cheek. You turn crimson and your body shivers. "T-thank you, Mitchell," you shakily stammer.

The romantic moment is broken by the catcalls of some of the "popular" girls.

"Look at the two lovebirds!"

"Aw, are the outcasts seeking solace with each other?"

"Mitchell and Edna, sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G, first comes --"

Mitchell whirls his head around and interrupts. "Jealous much, ladies? If you'd been as nice to me as Edna here has been over the course of the year, one of you could be the one going out with me. But you all ostracized me, and now because she was nice, she wins the prize."

That clearly wasn't an interruption they were expecting. There's a 10-second silence that seems to stretch to eternity before the girls regain their composure.

"Jealous? Of what?"

"Who wants a nerd like you anyway?"

"There are other -- and much better -- fish in the sea."

You finally speak up. "Sounds like the fox and the grapes, girls."

Before anyone can reply, the door opens and your teacher returns.

That afternoon, you and Mitchell talk pleasantly as you slowly stroll back to your house. Your mom gives him a smile as you step inside. He's helped tutor you when you were both younger.

"Have a good time," she says as you shepherd Mitchell in the direction of your bedroom. "But not too good of a time." She puctuates this with a wink.

You close the door behind you.
