Apologize to the jerk and agree to walk away

From Create Your Own Story

This doesn't seem to be working. If he's not going to back down, then you feel like you have to.

"I'm sorry for talking to you like that," you say.

"Was I wrong or was I right?" he growls, still holding you by the collar.

"You were right."

The big man releases you. "The good news is that I won't be beating you. The bad news is that Annabelle might."

"WHAT?! You know her name? But that must mean..." The wheels turn in your brain as you turn to Annabelle. "You set me up!"

She shakes her head sadly. "No, I gave you a test. And you failed it. After you started out so well, too. What a shame."

"Come on!" you plead. "How can I be expected to fight every big guy that is rude to you? Look how small I am! It's not fair!"

Annabelle shrugs. "No one ever said life is fair. Smaller, less athletic guys have a lot of hurdles to overcome. That's just the way life works. You could have overcome them just now if you'd just held out a little longer, but you gave up." You groan and do a facepalm.

"Life isn't fair, but I think any neutral observer would agree that I am," she continues. "I won't be giving you a beating. And even though I can't work with you anymore, I'll let you resign instead of firing you." She turns to the big man. "Come on, let's go."

You stand alone in the parking lot as sad music begins to play.

"Hey, get out of the way," says the driver of the car, his radio still playing the sad music.

"Sorry." You move over and continue to feel sorry for yourself on the curb.
