You walk for hours, until the big, black and red moon is riding high in the sky. The air is cold and the ground grows damp with dew, your bare feet aching as you plod along. Suddenly, the forest ends and you find yourself standing at the edge of a wide, rutted highway. Something moves among the trees on the other side of the road and you stare as three ragged-looking humans emerge from the forest. For a moment, they just stare back at you.
"You a runaway?" one of them asks in a loud whisper.
"Yeah," you whisper back. They talk quietly among themselves, then the one who spoke motions for you to come over there. You hesitantly cross the road.
"We're heading to a freedom ship," he says. "You can come, too, if you can keep up."
"What's a freedom ship?" you ask.
"A space transport run by free slaves. They help others escape to planets where slavery is outlawed. Are you coming or not?"
