You decide to take the goat between the horns, so to speak, and start walking down the middle path. It's rather dark in here, so dark you can barely see... but you can feel both the left and right walls at all times, so you make your way deeper and deeper into the cavern. You spend at least minutes, but because of how cold you are, it feels more like hours, wandering down this path. Eventually you see a light up ahead, and you excitedly run forward, hoping it's the way out ---
And you emerge back in the expansive chamber with the pool of glittering water. Did that passage loop back in on itself somewhere? You did not notice anything like that...
