Tune in to the cheerleaders' conversation
From Create Your Own Story
You slow your pace slightly and focus your senses on hearing what the cheerleaders are saying. You don't know them well enough to distinguish their voices without looking at them, but you can pick up the words, especially because they are closing the gap on you and Larissa.
"I can't believe you didn't tell him --"
"Well, if you had said --"
"Yeah, well, why didn't you think of it before he --"
"Hey, I think that's him! Let's tell him what we really -- how'd he get a girl?"
"It's that big one from that awful science class we have to take. She's probably desperate for a warm body."
You feel a hand with long, pointed nails poke you in the neck. "Turn around, you jerk! We've got a score to settle with you."
You and Larissa stop walking and turn to face the three angry cheerleaders. "Jealousy isn't very becoming, girls," you say. "Just because I found a girl who actually likes me because of what's inside my head, and won't spread her legs for anything wearing pants, doesn't mean you have to be jealous. After all, I'm sure you three are quite popular with a certain segment of the males. Putting out at the drop of a hat does have that effect."
All three cheerleaders blush a furious shade of red. Kaylee's foot lashes out and smashes into Larissa's large thigh.
"I won't bother striking back," Larissa says. She didn't even appear to grimace. "After all, I barely felt that little love-tap. If you young ladies need any help in that delightful and very easy science class, I'll be more than happy to tutor any or all of you."
Michelle gives you and Larissa a vicious glare. "We are not sluts," she says in a cold tone.
"If any of you date a boy for two weeks and don't put out during that time, I'll apologize to her in front of the whole school," you reply.
The cheerleaders look at each other, then back at you. Kaylee speaks this time. "So we get a little action," she snaps. "At least we're popular. At games, the whole school -- most of the town in fact -- is watching US. How many people see your stupid little science projects, anyway?"
With that, the three of them storm off. You turn to Larissa and shake your head sadly. "I'm glad I have you," you say. "I'd hate to be them."
Larissa nods. "I agree."
"I'd like to spend lunch getting to know you better," you say. "We have three options." You whisper to her.
Larissa smiles. "They all sound good. You choose."
- Find a table in the cafeteria and talk with Larissa
- Find a bench in the yard and talk with Larissa
- Have lunch with Larissa at the local hole-in-the-wall burger joint half a block from the school
