"No, nothing yet," you say, deciding against asking for his help. You head for the back and find Karen leaning against the wall, biting the nails on her left hand while her right sits on the metal bar to open the door. When she notices you she pushes off the wall and grabs the bar with both hands.
"You ready? Just follow me. I know a shortcut to the nearest bus stop," she says while pushing the door open a crack.
"I'm ready," you say, and she immediately shoves the door open and takes off. You follow her as quickly and quietly as you can as she leads you through an alley, down another alley, up a street, and stops next to an overgrown plot of land with a fence surrounding it. She points to the opening in the fence: "We go in there and cut across this empty lot. It's a lot faster than going around and there are some bad people living on the next street."
You can't help but to notice the signs on the fence, posted right above the hole she is talking about.
"Beware of DOG!"
"PRIVATE PROPERTY - KEEP OUT!"
"TRESPASSERS WILL BE SHOT!"
"Er... " you say, raising your hand to point out the signs.
"The previous owner put those up along with the fence. I'm pretty sure he got evicted though for letting the place get so overgrown with plants and weeds."
"Pretty sure?" you question.
"Pretty sure. My friend told me about it. She lives around here."
