"Flank formation!" You shout to Osmosian. He gives you a quick nod, and you and Osmosian backflip into either side of the small team of protoforms, sending blue-hot bullets into the protoforms. After a few shots, you're confident you've won. You are totally caught off guard when a protoform, with several holes in his body, charges at you, his blade raised. You must defend yourself somehow! You've been trained to fight with a cannon, but you might not get to fire it before the enemy is upon you. A blade would be better for defense, but you haven't practiced with your blade that much.
