Kirsten is the most independent of your kids. Strong willed and adventurous, she has gotten herself into all kinds of trouble (although not the serious kind). Debra and Kirsten are inseparable, while Will and her maintain something of a love-hate relationship, quite normal for brother and sister. Unfortunately, Kirsten already has other plans for the afternoon. Shopping with Debra takes preference.
"But," Kirsten says, "I discovered a bar with pool tables. We could play some pool after dinner if you like, mom."
"I can't play pool," you say.
Kirsten shrugs. "Don't worry, I'll teach you. It'll be fun." You agree, and Kirsten smiles. "It's a date," she says in her exaggeratedly deep voice. She and Debra wave you goodbye and leave.
You didn't make any plans to be as flexible as you could. But hey, you are on a cruise ship. Why not take the opportunity to watch the sea while the weather is still mild? You go upstairs onto the deck. Only a few people are on deck; you assume the passengers have similar plans like your family. You rest your arms onto the railing and stare towards the horizon. Ah, how relaxing - only now you realize how stressful your daily routine is.
At some point, you rouse from your thoughts. Time has flown by, and it is almost time for dinner.
