Climb down the ladder into the sewers

You climb down the metal rungs set in the side of the wall, slowly descending towards the sewer. It doesn't smell very good, but it isn't bad enough to make you gag. You climb downwards until you reach a ledge. You get off the rungs and turn around to face a slow-moving river of sewage.
Something above you clunks. You look up and see that the manhole cover is back in place.
