"Hi, I'm going to be five mins late. See you there" you read.

It confuses you for a second. Who'll meet you where? The sender is just listed as an unknown number. You shrug and put the phone back down. It must be a wrong number so you decide to ignore it.

You go upstairs and decide to jump in the shower. As you start to soap yourself up you can't help but think about that message again. And that's when it comes back to you. John, one of your oldest friends, is meeting you for a birthday drink this lunchtime. You don't recognise the number because he just broke his old phone and had to have it replaced, and it came with a brand new phone number. Quickly you wash all the soap off your body and leap out of the shower. It's become a tradition for the two of you to go get a drink together on each others birthdays. Neither of you has missed one for ... you think for a second, almost six years. And then the only reason he couldn't make it was that he had broke his leg and couldn't move.

Grabbing a towel you roughly dry yourself and after wrapping it around your waist go back into your bedroom. As you spin the alarm clock around you hope that somehow you've made a mistake and it's not as late as you think it is.

DAMN IT!

It's not as late as you think it is, it's even later than that. You've got to get dressed, get into town and get to the bar within fifteen minutes. But John did say he was running late himself, maybe if you text him back you can arrange to meet a little later.
