Davenport Wrestling Alliance

From Bywpedia

In November of 2005, Chris Hutton, Taylor Bley and Matthew Hutton toyed with the idea of starting their own basement wrestling promotion. They had a few matches on a small mattress, and tried out some different characters. Some of the gimmicks used in this pre-season show were later used in UCW.

The Davenport Wrestling Alliance was founded on December 13th, 2005 under the name of UCW, Ultimate Championship Wrestling. The very first edition of Dynamite, which is still running today, featured two matches to crown the first UCW Champion and UCW States Champion. Fireball defeated Sub Zero to become UCW Champion and Chris Kash defeated Archibald Williams in a Casket Match to become States Champion. From there, more wrestlers signed on including the Gatekeeper (Bley's first character, before becoming The Train), Magik, J-Kid, and others.

UCW's first 'PPV', the Devil's Lair, took place on January 30th, 2006. This show was obviously pretty awful, due to the age and inexperience of the roster, and it began The Gatekeeper's 1st reign as UCW Champion, which lasted one year and seven months.

UCW ran occasional shows in 2006 and 2007, and had it's first edition of their Wrestlemania-caliber event known as Evolution in 07. Due to the lack of Chris' organizational skills at the time, the first match for Evolution was filmed on April 21st, 2007, a Hardcore Battle Royal for #1 Contendership to the UCW Title. The last match of the show, a Ladder Match between Fireball and nemesis Gatekeeper for the UCW Championship, was taped on August 3rd, 2007.

The next huge landmark for the company was September 9th, 2007, when founding father Chris Kash finally won the UCW Championship after his partner Jman counted the pinfall for him after a Punisher on Fireball. Kash and Jman formed the tag team The Resistance, and they are still together to this day.

2008 was a monumental year for the company, as The Resistance attempted to usher in the DWA era and eliminate UCW. UCW original Gatekeeper fought against them for months in order to retain the 'legacy' of the fed. One of DWA's current top stars, Ryan Burge, joined the group in April 08 as 'The Prodigy' Robbie Bentley, teaming with Gatekeeper to defeat The Resistance in a tag team title match. With Burge later came the additions of his cousin 'The Spartan' Drew Barton in July 08, and 'Super White' Patrick Snuka in September. At the DWA 3 year anniversary show on December 13th, 2008, Drew Barton became a 2 time DWA Undisputed Champion by defeating Taylor 'The Train' Bley and the current champion 'The Backyard Messiah' Chris Kash in a triple threat match.

DWA has gotten off to a great start in 2009 as well, and is looking to make their fourth year the best one yet.
