Take the vials outdoors

You decide to take the vials outdoors. If the project is as dangerous as Gary thinks it is, you don't want to expose anyone else. There's always the danger of vampires outside, but you don't think they'll be poking around the barn. If they were that curious about it, they probably would have found the secret entrance to the underground complex by now.
Making your way through the passages, you climb up the ladder, the vials secure in your pocket. Your shotgun is strapped to your back just in case. You push open the trapdoor very slowly, making sure not to make a sound. Poking your head out, you look around. All seems to be quiet. You climb out into the barn and lower the trapdoor shut gently and silently.
You find an open space in the barn, then examine the pink and black substances in the vials. The black substance reminds you of the vile, dark clouds permanently blocking the sun. If that's true, then perhaps the colored substances are attempts at a formula that could make the cloud cover disappear!
You decide to put the vials back in the secret room. You can decide later whether or not you want to talk about this with Gary.
Suddenly, you hear footsteps approaching the front of the barn. Your heart pounds as your body tenses with decision.
