Your father is sitting in his “head of the household” chair.
He is a 44 year old man with lightly greying hair and is ruggedly good looking for his age. His natural hair color is a few shades darker than yours and he is clearly in shape, though not a hunk or anything.
He's wearing his Saturday get up: a sweater vest pulled over a white long-sleeved shirt and tan slacks. He's reading the newspaper and looks up over his reading glasses at you as you stand in the doorway.
You remember he was a pretty good father: stern, but understanding and helpful when he's around. But like a responsible father, he had the most obligations and had the least time to spend with the family, meaning the good that he did in your life was too infrequent to help you with your many problems.
He was a lawyer for a big law firm and eventually moved up to be a district judge. You recall that your mother affectionately calling him Jim, but know his name to be James.
