"Did you know Jake very well?" you ask.
"He wasn't exactly a friend," Daryl admits. "I saw him around sometimes."
You open your mouth to ask another question, but Daryl cuts you off.
"Nancy, I hate to leave you, but I've got a hot grill waiting for me," he says. "See you around, okay?"
You say your goodbyes and leave the diner.
