Erybelle: Take a shortcut through the woods.

From Create Your Own Story

You pick up your basket and feel your feet fly. The words won't stop, they refuse to leave your head. Maple's face appears in your mind, her laughter, her smile. No, you can't let anything happen to her.

Your breath hitches as your legs pump, the voices growing further away, everything fading away to fog. You cut through into the trees, arms held out in front of you to shield your face. Wet branches reach out to grab you and catch your hair, everything in the forest alive and breathing and trying to hold you back. Your fight your way further, following a worn pathway through the maze of trees and underbrush. The only sounds to accompany you are your own uneven breathing and the voices raging inside your head. Your feet become blistered and raw but still you run on, the basket hitting your side with every movement.

You suddenly burst out of the trees onto a familiar road but this time people have begun to wander out onto the roads and horse drawn carriages trot their way down the lane. You twist and turn, whispering 'excuse me' and 'pardon' as you knock into people and signs and buildings but find yourself caring even less.

Until you drop a flower.

Your freeze in place suddenly and watch a white carnation flutter to the ground. You remember that flower. That was the flower Maple had slipped behind your ear one day, the day that you met. She told you it meant innocence. She told you it's blanched petals represented faithfulness and pure love. After that you made her a flower crown made entirely of white carnations and planned to lay it on her bed as a present. Much to your surprise, when you went to put the finished crown on her bedsheets, there was one already sitting on yours.

Almost in a daze you bend down to pick it up. But before your fingers can reach it, it's run over by a carriage.

...

So much for that.
