You're not sure what Rhona will do if you say no, and you don't want to find out. So you say, "Yes, I'll join you."

"So will I," adds Annabelle.

Rhona smiles. "Excellent."

You get settled into your new life guarding the town. Rhona rules it with an iron fist, rejecting any weak-looking people who try to join the group and personally executing anyone who hurts the group in even the smallest of ways, such as sneaking an extra apple for themselves. Although some of her brutal actions shock you at first, you gradually come to accept that in this brave new world, her way of doing things is probably smarter than Jack and Holly's unconditional compassion.

Several months later, you and Annabelle are still alive, along with Rhona and all those who have stayed loyal to her and followed her instructions. The weak and the dishonest have been killed off.

It's a grim life, but it's the only way now.
