AAL: Ask her
From Create Your Own Story
"What's wrong?" I ask.
She flinches and looks back at me, distress in her beautiful eyes.
"Some boy waked up to me and asked me on a d-date...I didn't want to be rude, so I...accepted."
Okay, I know exactly who this boy is. Tyler Harrison, my "best friend". He's obsessed with girls, and that annoys me to a limit. I'm going to kill him one day. And I'm not exaggerating about that one. Wait, rewind. Did se just say she accepted?
"You accepted?"
"Um, yeah...He seemed like he really wanted to. So I said it would be okay and now...now we're going to Pizza Hut at 8:00 tonight."
Poor girl, she doesn't know what she's getting into. Tyler probably pulled the innocent act to woo her. Well, I need to fix this.
"Hey, do you mind if I come with a date, too? He is my friend."
"He is?" Oh yeah, she didn't know that, "I-I guess that's fine. Do you have a date?"
"Of course." We'll talk about this in a bit.
So, I went on with my day. School was fine, I guess. I don't have anymore classes with Sophia, and she's what this story ties around.
After school, I met with Annie Tuckers. She was hanging out with her boyfriend, Brock Halvorsen, by the school's front entrance.
"Hey, Annie. I need you to be my date for another one of Tyler's dates."
"Sure thing, Nick."
But then, Brock steps in.
"And what are you going to pay her for her services?" He's spitting on me.
She's not a hooker, Brock. Geez.
"Relax, Brock," Annie steps back in and says, "I don't need any pay, Nick's my friend."
Brock just grunts, gets in his old pickup truck and drives away.
"Sorry about Brock, you know how he is." Annie says to me, "So, what time do you want me to come by?"
"I think 7:45 tonight would be a good time."
Annie nods and hops on her bike. With one last wave, she rides away. Time for me to go home and relax.
...
After a nice walk home, I get into the house.
"Nick, Nick, Nick! Welcome home, Nick!"
Oh, that's my little sister, Hannah. She practically worships me, just because I play a bunch of games with her. Sometimes, it seems like she'd rather hang out with me than people her own age.
"Hey, Hannah. How was your day at school?" I ask.
"It was great, Nick! Look, I made you this in Art!"
She holds out this kind of sloppy picture that I guess is of me and her. It's kind of hard to make out, but what'd you expect from an 8-year-old? In fact, this is one of my weak points. I feel myself swelling up with tears of joy. Before I know it, I pick up my sister and hug her tightly crying, "Thank you!" while she laughs back, "You're welcome!"
My dad is a movie director and he's currently working on a big project. He's been a few miles away for a few months now. As for my mom, she's helping out at a refugee camp in Africa, I think. She's always felt bad for the homeless, orphans, and other people like that. Now she's doing something about it.
So, it's just me and my sister here. I have to go grocery shopping and all of that stuff myself, but my parents left me hundreds of dollars so I would have plenty of money for Hannah and I.
So, anyways, after my emotional episode, I finally set down my bag and lie down on the couch.
"Hey, Nick. Wanna play a video game?" Hannah asks me.
"Oh, sure, Hannah."
Normally, I act really competitive with Hannah and then "lose". But, this time, I have too much on my mind to focus on the game, so I'm losing on purpose.
"Come on, Nick! You aren't even trying!"
Come on, Hannah. Give me a break. I've got a lot on my mind.
"I'm sorry, Hannah. I'm just not into it today."
Hannah gets a half-sad, half-concerned look, "What's wrong, Nick? Did somethin' bad happen?"
"No, it's fine. I'm just gonna go to my room for a little. Make sure to get you homework done, Hannah."
I head off to my room and lie down on my bed. Okay, what now?
